On 12 March 2022, Navantia signed an In-Service Support (ISS) contract with Lockheed Martin Canada Inc (LMC) for Navantia’s DORNA Gun Control Unit (GCU) that controls the MK45 Mod2 main gun on the two Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) ANZAC frigates, HMNZS Te Kaha and Te Mana, as part of their systems upgrade.

HMNZS Te Kaha completed her upgrade in Canada in November 2020, returned to New Zealand in December 2020 and conducted her first post-upgrade deployment in the autumn of 2021. HMNZS Te Mana completed her upgrade in Canada in May 2022 and is scheduled to return to New Zealand in July 2022.

LMC is the Prime Systems Integrator to the New Zealand Ministry of Defence for the ANZAC Frigate Systems Upgrade, and the RNZN and LMC are pleased with the results of the DORNA GCU.

The DORNA GCU ISS contract covers the first five years of in-service support, until 2027. The services provided by Navantia include, amongst others, a 24/7 help desk and obsolescence management, using an application developed by Navantia to monitor in real-time possible parts obsolescence.
