Quantum Systems’ Seavex is an unmanned surface vessel (USV) for persistent maritime missions and sensor support.

The vessel is designed as an autonomous intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platform. It is intended to support distributed air, surface and subsurface operations, offering sustained presence at sea while acting as a mothership and communications gateway for autonomous systems operating together.

Seavex was launched in September 2026 in Portugal during a Portuguese exercise co-organised by the Portuguese Navy, Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, the Nato Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation, the Nato Joint Capability Group for Maritime Unmanned Systems and the European Defence Agency.

At the same event, the company presented Subvex, an AI-enabled unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) for autonomous ISR missions at depths of up to 6,000m. The introduction of the two new systems marks Quantum Systems’ entry of its unmanned portfolio from air and land into the maritime domain.

Seavex design and features

Seavex measures 8.5m (27.9ft) in length and 6.5m in width, with a draft of 1.8m and a displacement of 4,500kg (9,921lb). The platform can carry a total payload of up to 400kg.

The onboard system includes two Nvidia Jetson Orin AGX computing modules for edge processing and AI functions. These modules run machine learning frameworks and dedicated computer vision algorithms for real-time automated target detection, classification and identification, reducing dependence on external bandwidth.

The AI system also supports visual and sensor-assisted positioning, allowing navigation in global navigation satellite system-denied environments as well as coordinated multi-vehicle and swarm operations.

Dedicated computer vision processing enables real-time use of electro-optical (EO) sensor and radar data at the edge, supporting autonomous decision-making and distributed maritime operations.

Control and communication

Seavex uses a multi-bearer communications suite comprising satellite communications, cellular 5G, Wi-Fi and Silvus tactical data links, secured with AES-256 encryption.

The vessel is integrated with the MOSAIC UXS software suite, an International Traffic in Arms Regulations-free platform designed for mission management and multi-domain command-and-control.

MOSAIC UXS details

The MOSAIC UXS platform supports AI-assisted missions, swarm control and multi-sensor data fusion while keeping human operators in control of mission execution. It brings together reconnaissance, target identification, mission execution and battle damage assessment within a single operator interface, giving users a unified real-time operational picture in complex environments.

Using AI-powered planning and real-time assessment, MOSAIC UXS generates 3D digital representations of the mission area and converts mission objectives into precise instructions for each autonomous system.

Seavex unmanned surface vessel performance

The Seavex USV has an operational endurance of up to two months, supporting persistent surveillance missions without regular replenishment. It has a nominal surveillance speed of three knots and a maximum speed of 15 knots.

The platform is designed to operate in seawater temperatures from 0°C to 40°C. It can maintain normal operations in up to Sea State 3 and has an overall platform survivability rating of up to Sea State 6.

The vessel also supports the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in wind conditions of up to Beaufort Force 5 (8–10m/s).

Sensors

The sensor package includes a medium-range multi-sensor EO tracker with a laser rangefinder. It also features a 4D anti-drone radar for multi-mission use with a range of 15 nautical miles (nm), alongside a 2D surveillance radar with a range of 48nm.

Colour and forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras are used for visual odometry.

Seavex USV mission capabilities

Seavex is configured as a persistent expeditionary command and sensor node. It can host UAVs and UUVs, supporting autonomous launch, mission tracking and recovery across the operating area.

The vessel also includes counter-UAV functions within a layered maritime sensing, detection and protection framework, while combining air, surface and subsurface sensors into a coordinated ISR network.

Its modular sensor architecture supports long-range surveillance radar, anti-drone radar, EO tracking systems and an independent navigation system. The system also includes the capability to autonomously recharge the Subvex UUV.
