Strategic Airborne Operations JV has won a five-year US Navy High Endurance Electronic Warfare Jet (HEEWJ) contract.
The contract is worth $146m and has been awarded by Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIRSYSCOM).

Strategic Airborne Operations JV is a joint venture between Aery Aviation and Mountain Aviation. Aery is the managing member of the JV.
Aery vice-president Scott Beale said: “We are proud to have been awarded this mission-critical navy contract and follow a great legacy of performance with next-generation modernised equipment to serve our navy partner.”
As per the contract, the company will acquire 13 aircraft, which includes three Learjet and Gulfstream IV aircraft models.
It will be responsible for design, engineering, modification, testing, and certification iterations. The company will carry out the work at its corporate headquarters facilities in Newport News, Virginia.

By GlobalDataThese aircraft are expected to provide the US Navy with Stand-Off Jamming, Electronic Attack, and Banner and Target Tow, flying around 4,000 flight hours each year CONUS and OCONUS.
In addition, work under the contract will include certification of more than a dozen FAA Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) baseline and configuration changes for various mission-critical systems, including wing hardpoints and radomes.
The overhaul of the Navy CAS HEEWJ fleet focuses on the replacement of the legacy equipment with modernised equipment and capabilities.
