BMT Defence Services Ltd, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has appointed Rob Steel as Head of Marketing.

Steel will promote BMT’s products, services and capabilities, as well as attracting new business, focusing on growth for the future maritime defence platform market and the company’s increasing presence in land defence systems acquisition support. His insight, creativity, original thinking and leadership further strengthen the BMT marketing team, which centres on developing existing and new markets in the UK and overseas.

Since joining BMT Defence Services in 2003, Steel has held senior management positions in marketing, business development and engineering. His move to BMT followed a 19-year career in the Royal Navy during which he worked in several key roles in engineering logistics and marine engineering, serving on ships, submarines and shore bases. Steel served as Head of the Royal Navy Firefighting School between 1997 and 1999. He is a Chartered Engineer, Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, and Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.

“I see great opportunities for the company, from continuing to provide top-class naval design and acquisition support for the Ministry of Defence, to building links and securing contracts with overseas shipyards and government agencies,” says Steel.
