The US Navy’s Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), is participating in the 37th iteration of the Exercise Cobra Gold 2018 (CG18).
CG18 is one of the largest multinational exercises within the Indo-Pacific region and has been designed to integrate the US military with the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Thailand, as well as other allied nations.

The exercise is being co-sponsored by the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the US Armed Forces.
It is primarily intended to promote regional security and ensure effective responses to regional crises.
US Navy sailors hosted personnel from Royal Thai Navy on-board USS Bonhomme Richard to conduct a day of hands-on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) training under the initiative.
The activities were carried out to further the integration of the two nations’ armed forces.

By GlobalDataUSS Bonhomme Richard damage control assistant lieutenant j.g. Sean Murray said: “During the demonstration, we covered individual protection equipment, detection equipment and decontamination procedures for personnel.
“This was a part of Cobra Gold to inform and teach the Royal Thai Navy on US Navy ship-specific casualty control procedures for CBRN defence.”
LHD 6 sailors and marines of the 3d Marine Division (MARDIV) are scheduled to work to maintain readiness during joint operation with Royal Thai Navy vessels as part of the exercise.
The CG18 exercise will see participation from a total of seven countries, including Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Singapore, in addition to Thailand and the US.
The exercise will help enhance the ability of the participating nations to plan and carry out combined / joint operations, as well as facilitate the development of strong relationships.
It is also anticipated to increase interoperability across a range of activities and improve overall maritime security.
