Teledyne delivers Blueview MB2250 module upgrades to Turkish Navy’s AUVs

Low logistics autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) manufacturer Teledyne has delivered capability upgrades for the Turkish Navy’s entire fleet of Gavia AUVs.

Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) manufacturer Teledyne has delivered capability upgrades for the Turkish Navy’s entire fleet of Gavia AUVs.

Under the project, the company has delivered the Teledyne Blueview MB2250 modules and associated Teledyne PDS software for the unmanned vehicles.

The navy’s Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Command in Erdek operates the Gavia AUVs.

Set to be used together with the existing Edgetch 2205 side scan sonars, the Blueview MB2250 will provide capabilities for side scan sonar nadir gapfill.

Modules also help deliver high-frequency multi-beam data that can enable the detection and classification of mine such as objects.

Teledyne modules were put to test during recent MCM trials. The capability allowed the Turkish Navy AUV to cover nearly a further 40% in area than the vehicle in the same time period.

With an aim to improve its existing capabilities, the Turkish Navy MCM command will deploy the upgraded Gavia AUVs either from vessels of opportunity or from the Aydin-class or the Engin-class minehunters.

Gavia AUV is a fully low-logistics modular system that can be used to carry out operations from vessels of opportunity and has the greatest depth rating of any vehicle in its class.

The modular design of the unmanned system helps offer maximum mission flexibility and system upgradability.

Module options include acoustic payloads for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) training, a number of side scan sonars, multibeams, camera and a range of environmental sensors.
