Sweden’s Saab and Polish defence prime PGZ Group have established a new strategic collaboration agreement within the naval sector.
Both parties have agreed to examine cooperation in areas such as service and lifecycle support for both surface vessels and submarines.

PGZ Group’s naval entities will be integrated with Saab’s supply network, and developing export options for surface and underwater platforms, including rescue vessels.
The companies also plan to open an Underwater Technology Centre in Poland in the future.
Saab and PGZ will jointly assess potential for manufacturing and marketing the Swedish company’s Autonomous Ocean Drone and will look into possible collaboration on a heavyweight torpedo.
Saab president and CEO Micael Johansson said: “I am pleased to have signed this agreement today with PGZ and to see the speed at which our cooperation is advancing.
“This agreement reflects a strong commitment to a deepening partnership between Polish and Swedish industry, while also contributing to enhanced security in the Baltic Sea and Nato’s eastern flank.”
This agreement builds upon a memorandum of understanding previously signed by Saab and PGZ at the MSPO event in Kielce in September 2025.
In March 2026, the companies entered into another agreement, which laid out plans for collaboration linked to in-country submarine maintenance, repair, and overhaul as part of Poland’s Orka submarine programme.
The two firms are also looking further opportunities in the development of defence solutions for multi-domain operations and production of mortar munitions in Poland.
PGZ CEO Adam Leszkiewicz said: “Signing this strategic agreement with Saab confirms that the naval and underwater domain is becoming a key pillar of Polish–Swedish cooperation, both from a security and an industrial perspective.”
The partnership traces back to 2016, when Saab and PGZ established a memorandum of understanding for enhanced cooperation in designing and delivering surface ships and submarines for both the Polish Navy and external clients.
