For Babcock, this agreement supports its broader effort to develop stronger, long-term relationships with key suppliers, aiming to simplify and standardise how specialist engineering expertise is brought into essential defence programmes.

The framework is intended to allow suppliers to contribute to multiple projects more efficiently, improving procurement processes and fostering greater collaboration.

Such industrial collaboration will help to deliver new Royal Navy programme ambitions at pace, such as the “hybrid navy” concept currently in development, as the Navy ship count falls well below the level needed for credible force structure.

Amentum’s inclusion in the framework builds on its longstanding involvement in UK defence infrastructure, including support for Babcock’s Devonport Royal Dockyard, His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde and Rosyth Royal Dockyard.

The company stated that the framework allows it to continue and expand its role supporting current and future UK defence and submarine programmes as well as other military platforms and infrastructure.

Amentum executive Loren Jones stated: “We are looking forward to supporting the delivery of programmes vital to the UK’s safety and security in the years ahead, deploying our proven experience of modernising the UK’s naval bases, dockyards and defence systems.”

This already includes specialised technical validation for critical infrastructure such as docks, berths and shiplifts for the maintenance of Astute and Dreadnought-class submarines and for the wider Royal Navy fleet.

Amentum, headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia, delivers services, including requirements management, multi-disciplinary engineering design and architectural building services.

The company also provide technical support such as safety case authoring, Human Factors expertise, 3D Building Information Modelling, geotechnical studies, and independent technical assessments.
