Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) subsidiary Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) has selected QinetiQ’s Paramarine ship and submersible design software as its key naval architectural software.

NNS will use the new Paramarine software for all vessels designed and constructed at its shipyard, including the US Navy’s latest class of aircraft carriers, as well as supporting submarine R&D.

QinetiQ marine design software managing director Vittorio Vagliani said: "We are very pleased to have been selected by one of the world’s leading naval ship and submarine builders.

"We look forward to working with NNS."

"The selection of Paramarine software by NNS is a massive vote of confidence in the power and flexibility of the software.

"We look forward to working with NNS."

NNS has been the exclusive designer, constructor and refueller of US Navy aircraft carriers, and one of two providers of submarines for the US Navy.

The shipbuilder is currently working on the navy’s new Ford-class aircraft carriers and Virginia-class fast-attack submarines, as well as executing refuelling and overhaul on Nimitz-class aircraft carriers.
