Charles Drew is the tenth Lewis and Clark-class ship capable of delivering almost 10,000t of dry cargo and petroleum products to the Navy and allied ships at sea.
The 689ft long T-AKE 10 will be operated under the US Navy’s Military Sealift Command.
Currently, the 11th and 13th dry cargo ships are under construction at the San Diego shipyard while construction of the 14th and last ship is scheduled to begin by the end of 2010.
