The French Navy’s first NH90 helicopter crew has begun simulator training, a step towards the first missions with Secmar at Lanvéoc, planned for late 2011.

The NH90 simulator is an exact replica of the helicopter’s ergonomics, glass cockpit and electric controls. The crew has, however, begun training on the land-based NH90 simulator, which features a different mission system.

The simulator enables the crew to carry out take-off and landing, and fault management, and to develop an understanding the machine and all its features.

The simulation phase is scheduled to end before the end of February 2010 as part of the comprehensive training programme for the NH90 helicopter that began in September 2009.

Upon completion of the simulation phase, the crew will work with Eurocopter and be trained on the actual naval systems on the first NH90, which will be delivered to the navy during 2010.
