The US Navy has awarded a $49.7m contract to defence systems engineering company Argon ST for the development of a C4ISR system architecture.

Under the contract, the company will be responsible for the research, development and analysis required to produce C4ISR system architecture in support of the navy’s electro-optical, radio frequency, acoustic sensors and special sensor systems.

C4ISR system is a comprehensive suite of sensor devices together with IP-based network communications to support control, communications, computers, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) situational awareness technologies.

The initial funding over the project is $5.4m and the work is expected to be complete by 2014.
