The Israel Navy has successfully tested the Barak missile defence system by intercepting an enemy missile in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Barak missile, launched from the navy’s Sa’ar 5-class missile boat, successfully intercepted and destroyed a mock enemy missile fired from another ship.

The missile interceptor is an advanced version of the Barak missile to be installed on all Israeli missile ships.

The Barak-8 missile, being developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, is currently in the final development stage and scheduled to be operational in 2010.
