Korea-based Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has won a $75m submarine overhaul contract from the Indonesian Navy.

Daewoo will work towards improving the performance of a 1,300t submarine by replacing its major equipment such as radar, sonar and combat systems and reassembling the ship hull and loading latest equipment.

DSME was chosen for the project based on their previous overhaul work on the navy’s Cakra-401.

DSME will deliver the upgraded submarine by 2011.
