The US Navy has awarded a contract modification to GD Electric Boat to develop advanced submarine technologies for current and future undersea platforms.
According to the contract, Electric Boat will carry out advanced submarine R&D in a wide range of technology areas that include manufacturing, maintenance, survivability, hydrodynamics, acoustics and materials.
The company will also conduct R&D in areas such as manning, hull integrity, performance, ship control, logistics, weapons handling and safety.
The contract also supports near-term Virginia Class technology insertion, identification of Ohio Class replacement technology options, future submarine concepts and core technologies.
The $7m contract has a potential value of $711.4m over a period of five years if all options are exercised and funded.
