BWXT stated that the contract applies to fiscal year 2026 and represents the first in a series of five annual task order awards available through 2030.

The second contract, valued at $165m, involves the procurement and production of reactor system components dedicated to the Ford-class aircraft carrier.

Component manufacturing take place at BWXT’s facilities in Barberton, Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Indiana.

BWXT, headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia, has produced over 420 nuclear reactor cores for the US Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

This programme covers design, construction, and management of all nuclear-powered vessels in the US Navy, with responsibilities ranging from building to maintaining the ships and related facilities.

Over the past 70 years, the US Navy’s submarines and carriers have utilised components manufactured at BWXT’s facilities, accumulating millions of miles of operational service.

Within the last six months, the Mount Vernon facility shipped four Ford-class steam generators to the Hampton Roads shipyards in Virginia.

These generators will be installed on the newest Ford-class aircraft carrier, the USS Doris Miller (CVN 81).

In July of last year, BWX Technologies secured contracts valued at approximately $2.6bn under the US Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program to manufacture reactor components for Virginia-class and Columbia-class submarines, as well as Ford-class carriers.
