2. Tyler Rogoway’s tweet on a new electronic warfare system spotted on the US Navy’s aircraft carriers

Tyler Rogoway, editor of The War Zone, an online defence magazine, shared an article on a mysterious new electronic warfare system being spotted on the US Navy’s aircraft carriers. The new system was seen on two US Navy aircraft carriers including the USS Carl Vinson and the USS Abraham Lincoln after they departed into the Pacific. The system was placed at three different locations around the boundary of the carriers.

The system appears to have the ability to spin to a certain degree and is covered with a radome enclosure. The article notes that the system may be an active electronically scanned array (AESA), which can initiate attacks on threats using radio frequency homing. The new system is a key upgrade to the aircraft carriers as it required significant modifications to the outer mold line, the article adds.
