Lürssen Defence is now NVL Group, an independent and privately owned group of shipyards. Based on outstanding German engineering and craftsmanship, the shipyards of NVL Group build and repair all classes of high-quality naval vessels for the German Navy and other navies worldwide.
NVL Group’s portfolio includes solutions customised to individual needs. For naval shipbuilding programmes, it offers three cooperation models:
The brand name is new, but the core values remain the same – trust, reliability and quality are just as much a part of NVL Group as they were Lürssen Defence. With four Northern German shipyards for newbuilds, repairs and more, NVL Group owns the facilities to build and support ships from 20m to 200m using the most advanced shipbuilding technology.
NVL Group provides numerous solutions to ensure each naval vessel continues to operate at its peak throughout its life cycle. The company offers a range of services as part of NVL Services, including production of detailed documentation, reliable supply of spare parts and effective training. NVL Services also covers maintenance, repair and refitting to maximise the potential of any vessel, whether it has been built by an NVL Group shipyard or not.
NVL Group also assists in establishing maritime infrastructure and integrating ships with other platforms, systems and facilities.
NVL Group shipyards build a range of high-speed crafts. These particular vessels can quickly respond to any challenge, offering top speeds of more than 40 knots.
The units are ideally suited for securing and patrolling a country’s coastal waters. They can be deployed during emergencies or disasters, as they are high-performance with excellent seakeeping characteristics. They are also suitable for local naval operations in territorial waters.
NVL OPVs are multi-role platforms built to provide permanent maritime security in operational areas due to their long endurance capabilities.
Suited to protecting offshore installations, guarding fish stocks and other natural resources, and search-and-rescue (SAR) operations, the basic design can be adapted and upgraded to suit individual needs and specific challenges. This can include rapid interception of smugglers, pirates or terrorists by way of rigid high-speed inflatable boats (RHIBs) that are carried on board.
Equipped with sophisticated combat and weapon systems, NVL Corvettes can play an essential role in any naval flotilla. Impressive features, such as stealth capability and automated weapon systems, make these medium-sized vessels ideal for crisis management, maintaining security in territorial waters and combat operations.
NVL Frigates can carry out several types of missions, including maritime surveillance, anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare and air defence.
These vessels can also serve as a network ship in joint and multi-national assignments. In formation with naval support vessels and fleet logistics, NVL Frigates can operate wherever they are needed.
NVL Minesweepers and Minehunters are worldwide leaders in their class due to the high level of unit protection, integration of sophisticated mine countermeasure systems (MCM), and advanced construction materials. The non-magnetic steel with which they are built guarantees important tactical advantages along with effective protection from possible fire and explosions.
NVL Group designs and builds logistic support ships and auxiliary vessels to support naval fleets undertaking ‘out of area’ operations.
NVL Logistic Support Ships can supply fuel, food provisions, ammunition and spare parts to ensure the continued operational readiness of a naval fleet. These vessels can also support the combatant fleet with special repair facilities and feature an on-board hospital for use in disaster relief operations.
An independent, privately owned group of Northern German shipyards and related companies, NVL stands for Naval Vessels Lürssen and was formerly known as Lürssen Defence.
Since the late 1870s, more than 1,000 naval and coast guard vessels have been completed at the company’s Northern German shipyards. NVL Group has also built and repaired ships for fleets in more than 50 countries, including for the German Navy.
NVL Group provides uniquely tailored naval solutions from a single source for any requirement or budget. This performance is sustained throughout a vessels’ life cycle, with the expertise of NVL Services to keep navies worldwide mission-ready.
As an independent enterprise, NVL Group has a strong focus on its customers as well as the high performance of its products, but remains flexible when it comes to selecting suppliers or integrating third-party systems. The company also reacts quickly to market changes and operates a dynamic, safe and future-oriented business for customers, employees, partners and the community.
