US Department of Defense has awarded a contract worth $14,095,184 to the Marine Services Division Oceaneering International, Virginia for the service life extension programme (SLEP) of three US Navy’s landing craft, air cushion (LCAC) crafts.

This programme will increase the service life of LCAC from 20 to 30 years and reduces life-cycle costs by improving reliability and maintainability.
The LCAC SLEP includes repair and upgrade of the buoyancy box, gas turbine engine replacement, and installation of a new skirt and an integrated C4N equipment package.
Successive additions in the project would bring the value of contract to $38,883,193.
The work is expected to be complete by 2012 with Norfolk as the workplace.
