The Iranian Navy intends to launch medium class, 500t submarines over the next two years according to the navy’s lieutenant commander for self-sufficiency Admiral Farhad Amiri.
Amiri said that the navy would launch the submarine in the next two years and reach self sufficiency in this field.
“Iran’s defence industries are currently mass producing different classes of submarines that will boost the country’s sub-surface capability,” he said.
Iran’s first indigenously built submarine, Ghadir 948, joined the naval brigade of the first naval zone in June 2009.
