The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch a dedicated geostationary satellite for the Indian Navy in 2010, with a footprint across the Indian Ocean region.

Defence minister AK Antony said the naval communications satellite would significantly improve naval connectivity in terms of communication.

the satellite would datalink Indian naval platforms including ships, aircraft and shore establishments.

The satellite will have a range of between 1,110km and 1,850km.

The launch of the Indian Navy satellite will be followed by dedicated satellites for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army.
