Under the contract, Boeing and Bell will upgrade the CV-22 CPTT with modifications including an aircrew flight simulation (AFS) that deploys a fused reality system, which combines video images with virtual reality.
The upgraded AFS will allow the pilot to view both the interior cabin environment and the simulated outside world by integrating virtual and real scenarios in an image processor.
Boeing training systems and services vice-president Mark McGraw said the modification enables the pilots to train on real-time cargo air drops, parachute drops and emergencies, including wing fires, hydraulic leaks and engine smoke.
The Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft with both a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) and short take-off and landing (STOL) capability that is designed to perform multiple missions with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance.
As part of the ongoing CV-22 CPTT development programme the new upgrade will be delivered to Air Force Special Operations Command, 58th Training Squadron at Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
