MUOS is the future narrowband tactical satellite communications system, which will provide warfighters with the latest mobile technology, including simultaneous voice, video and data, as well as improved service to users of the current ultra high-frequency follow-on system.
The satellite has completed passive intermodulation testing, electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compatibility testing, as well as the spacecraft level baseline integrated system test.
Tests for the first MUOS satellite have been carried out by the US Navy and Lockheed at the company’s facilities in Sunnyvale, California.
Lockheed Martin will now conduct a series of critical environmental test phases to demonstrate the overall satellite design, quality of workmanship and survivability during space vehicle launch and on-orbit operations.
The first MUOS satellite is scheduled for on-orbit delivery to the US Navy in 2011.
