During the overhaul, both the companies replaced the circuit cards of the weapon systems and performed various maintenance tasks.
Raytheon Missile Systems international business development vice-president Cynthia Davis said the inspection and maintenance of the weapon systems was performed on the navy’s amphibious transport dock INS Jalashwa.
“We are talking with the Indian Navy about upgrading its block 1 systems and acquiring additional Phalanx systems, as well as other Raytheon products to defend India’s fleet and sailors,” she said.
Features of the Phalanx block 1 configuration include a 20mm Gatling gun that can fire rounds at 3,000 or 4,500 shots a minute and an advanced search and track Ku-band radar for autonomous target detection and engagement.
The system is flexible enough to be integrated with any ship combat system and provides target designation for other shipboard weapons.
