The Israeli Navy is testing a new missile defence system for its Super Dvora and Shaldag patrol ships, which are tasked with enforcing the blockade on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon during wartime.

The new defence system features a radar capable of detecting and tracking incoming missiles, and uses an electronic warfare system to block its signal and change it from its course.

The missile system for patrol boats is being developed to strengthen the Israeli position against Hamas and Hizbullah’s anti-ship capabilities.

The navy is also planning to buy a number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that can be launched from ships to improve its reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering capabilities, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The missile system is under development by MAFAT, the Defense Ministry’s Research and Development Directorate.
