Lockheed has been awarded a contract for work on the F-35 joint strike fighter for the UK.

Under the terms of the contract, Lockheed’s aeronautics unit will incorporate shipborne rolling vertical landing capability onto the fighter aircraft.

Work will be performed at the company’s facility in Fort Worth, Texas, US, with about 35% of the work to be carried out in UK.

The $13m contract was awarded by the US Naval Air Systems Command and is expected to be completed by October 2013.
