Cobham has been selected to provide major radio frequency and microwave assemblies for Aegis surveillance and fire control radar systems on the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyers.

As per the $40m contract, Cobham will provide the prime contractor, Lockheed Mission Systems and Sensors, with 3,700 assemblies for each Aegis system.

The Aegis system is a manoeuvreable, low-cost ballistic missile defence radar for smaller platform ships such as frigates.

The US Navy has plans to build eight Arleigh Burke vessels between 2011 and 2016.
