The upgraded C-2A Greyhound Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) for the US Navy has been declared operational at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, US.

The OFT has been outfitted with a new communication, navigation surveillance / air traffic management (CNS/ATM) system, which includes satellite-based technology for seamless control and management of air traffic over US civilian airspace and abroad.

US Naval Aviation Training Systems (PMA-205) program manager Captain John Feeney said the upgraded simulator will ensure proficiency in air traffic management before taking on an actual C-2A.

The upgrades also include replacement of the original instructor operator station (IOS) with new Windows-based IOS simulator and an eight-bladed propeller.

The C-2A Greyhound is a twin-engine, cargo aircraft designed to perform carrier onboard delivery of personnel, supplies and mail.
