The two gunboats, BRP Manuel Gomez and BRP Emilio Liwanag, as well as the supply ship BRP Dagupan City, will display the navy’s commitment to upgrade its capability.
Philippine Navy spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Omar Tonsay said the ships would transport supplies and logistics and conduct maritime security patrols missions.
The 110ft-tall boats were acquired from South Korea and were upgraded for patrolling and interdiction, according to PhilStar.com.
The navy also has plans to acquire a 1t troop carrier and a 2t troop and cargo carrier, while the Jacinto Class patrol vessel will be upgraded and a 20W radio is to be configured this year.
