The Indian Navy has commissioned a new indigenous warship, INS Kabra, to its fleet to aid in anti-piracy operations in the Arabian Sea.

INS Kabra, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), is the eighth indigenously designed water-jet-propelled fast attack craft.

The 49m-long ship has a cruising speed of 35kts and is suited for high-speed interdiction of fast-moving targets as well as in search and rescue operations.

The craft is armed with a 30mm CRN 91 gun in addition with machine guns of various types and shoulder launched surface-to-air missiles.

The ship will operate under the operational and administrative control of the southern naval commander at Kochi, India.
