The Iranian Navy’s support and combat service units will be fitted with long-range surface-to-surface missiles, a senior Iranian naval commander has said.

Fars News Agency has quoted Rear Admiral Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi as saying, “The support units’ surface-to-surface missiles were successfully subjected to test and assessment during the navy’s recent drill named Joshan [chain mail].

“The missile frigates and destroyers have been equipped with these missiles for some time now. After final tests, other units will also be equipped with these systems,” he added.

The navy also has plans to equip its surface vessels with modern anti-aircraft systems, which are currently being installed on on some vessels.

Iran is currently tasked with defending its maritime borders, resources and interests, and providing security for connecting routes.
