General Dynamics (GD) subsidiary Bath Iron Works has been awarded a $110.8m modification contract for long-lead construction and engineering, production and support services.

Under the contract, the company will provide long-lead-time material for the Zumwalt-class DDG 1001 and DDG 1002 destroyers.

The construction of the Zumwalt destroyer has been under way since February 2009 and a keel-laying ceremony is scheduled to be held in November this year.

Work under the contract is expected to be completed by October 2011.
