Iran is planning to make changes to its Sayyad 2 or Hunter missiles to deploy on Mowj-class vessels.
Sayyad 2 missile, which is suitable for mid-range and high-altitude air defense systems, can destroy different types of helicopters, drones and targets with small radar cross-section and high speed and maneuverability within its operational range.
Iran Navy Operations Lieutenant Commander Admiral Siyavash Jarreh was quoted by Fars News as saying that the changes are being made to Sayyad missile to mount on under-construction Mowj vessels, including Mowj 2, Mowj 3, Mowj 4 and Mowj 5.
"We can concurrently dispatch two fleets of warships in opposite directions to the east and west of the Indian Ocean and we have done this before and enjoy the technical capability to carry out such missions whenever necessary," Jarreh said.
In 2011, Iran had successfully test-fired the Sayyad 2 air-defense missile system.
In August 2013, Iran announced that it had deployed latest home-made missile production, Sayyad 2 in S-200 anti-aircraft system.
The Iranian defense ministry had launched the Sayyad 2 production line in November 2013, in a ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan.
Speaking at the ceremony Dehqan said the designing and production of Sayyad 2 missile has been initiated to have the needed defensive tool for confronting air raids.
Earlier, Iran had introduced two-staged air defense missile Sayyad 1, which is capable of destroying targets with low Radar Cross Section (RCS) at low and medium altitudes.
Sayyad 1 also holds the capability to defuse jamming and electronic warfare attacks.
