PROTEUS simulator

Kongsberg has been awarded a contract by the Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN) to upgrade the Proteus simulator infrastructure as well as migrate the infrastructure to a common Proteus simulation core for all the RNoN’s Kongsberg-delivered simulators.

The contract also includes new visual image generation, a generic HLA Evolved interface enabling further simulator participation in joint collaborative exercises, and a new Proteus map-centric instructor station.

Valued at NOK49m ($8.2m), the simulator infrastructure is scheduled to be delivered to the RNoN training establishment KNM Tordenskjold at Haakonsvern naval base in 2016.

Kongsberg Defence Systems executive vice president Leiv Inge Steig said: "RNoNs decision to further upgrade and improve its Proteus-based simulator infrastructure strengthens our position as supplier of simulator systems, and in this context this is a very important reference contract for Kongsberg."

Kongsberg introduced the Proteus integrated naval training environment for resource management and crew teamwork (INTERACT) in 2012, which is designed to provide fully integrated vessel training under complex naval scenarios combining multiskills, teams and force-levels.

The Royal Norwegian Navy currently uses Proteus software in the Ula-class submarine Command Team Trainer (CTT), and the software is also a choice for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) latest Hobart-class Aegis destroyer CTT.

The company also provides the Proteus Action Speed Tactical Trainer (PROTEUS – ASTT) for high fidelity naval tactical training, including training the naval command team in the tactical decision making process.
