The Ukrainian government is planning to resume the corvette construction programme in 2012 and is likely to draft an amended programme for a new navy corvette.

According to Shipbuilding Tribune News, the construction programme was halted in 2010 due to financial problems.

The Ukrainian Government had initially approved the building of ten ships in March 2009; however, due to budget constraints the project has been limited to just four corvettes.

The ship will have a displacement capacity of 2,500t with 30 days of endurance and will be deployed to operate in the Black and Mediterranean seas.

Under the $2bn corvette construction programme, the Ukrainian Navy is currently scheduled to commission the lead ship in 2016, while the construction of four corvettes will be completed by 2021.
