Renk Group has signed a binding agreement to acquire David Brown Defence (DBD) from Stellex Capital Management, aiming to strengthen its presence in the naval sector.
The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed by the companies, though Bloomberg has indicated the value of David Brown Defence to be between $200m and $250m.

DBD, part of the David Brown Santasalo group, specialises in the production of high-precision gearboxes for both naval and land defence purposes.
The company maintains a significant order backlog, alongside a projected pipeline worth over £700m for the period spanning 2026 to 2030. Its workforce comprises approximately 530 employees.
The company’s operations cover three main sectors. In marine surface applications, David Brown Defence is a certified supplier to prominent naval shipbuilding programmes.
In the marine sub-surface domain, the company brings expertise in low-noise and low-vibration propulsion systems for submarines, representing a new capability for Renk.
For land defence, its technology supports key UK armoured vehicle programmes, including those involving Challenger 2 and Boxer vehicles.
Following the completion of the acquisition, Renk Group anticipates consolidating its activities within the international defence-sector transmission market.
The transaction is expected to enable Renk to participate in a number of major naval procurement initiatives in the UK, Canada, and Australia.
DBD is involved in major naval projects, such as the Global Combat Ship programme, which includes up to 34 ships, among them Type 26 frigates, Hunter-class frigates, and River-class destroyers.
The prolonged lifespans of these programmes are seen as providing further opportunities, particularly in aftermarket services.
In addition, Renk expects the acquisition to reinforce its role in the global naval propulsion systems industry and increase its presence in the Five Eyes countries, which include the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
The transaction remains subject to standard regulatory approvals and is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
