The Iranian Navy has deployed the first home-made warship, Jamaran, to the northern Indian Ocean to conduct anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden.

Fars News Agency has also reported that the deployment follows the arrival of the 15th flotilla, comprising of Alvand and Bushehr destroyers, at home port.

Jamaran is armed with a smart ‘Nour’ (light) missile and a variety of anti-ship, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles and is capable of engaging in surface, air and undersea warfare.

The Iranian Navy recently mounted advanced semi-conductor radar with Fuzzy arranged flat antennas on the destroyer, which was launched in February 2010.
