The US Navy has awarded a contract to Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc. (HTSI) to provide engineering and integrated logistics support between ships and embarked SH-60 helicopters.

Under the $51m contract, the company will provide design, development, integration, testing, evaluation, maintenance and logistics support for the light airborne multipurpose system (LAMPS).

LAMPS is the shipboard element of a two-way digital data link between a US Navy ship and a SH-60 helicopter.

HTSI president Vince Trim said the company would install a major upgrade to the system, under this new contract, which will extend the monitoring ability of both the ship and helicopter through radar and sonar.

Honeywell will also provide support services to the fleet around the world for maintenance, testing and repair.

The five-year contract has been awarded by the US Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division.
