The US Navy has awarded a contract to Lockheed Martin for the production and delivery of Symphony improvised explosive device (IED) jammer systems.

Lockheed Martin’s Symphony IED Jammer System is a programmable, vehicle mounted radio-frequency IED jammer designed to detect and diffuse IEDs.

Under the initial $40.7m contract, the company will also supply field test sets, operator reference cards, uploader software, user guides, programme protection, tool kits and provide depot support.

In addition, Lockheed will provide field and engineering services as well as system documentation in support of allied coalition and partner nations.

The contract has options which, if exercised, would make its cumulative value $94m.

Work will be carried out in Florida and Virginia and is expected to be complet by September 2014.

The contract has been awarded by the US Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, DC.
