The US Navy has awarded a contract to Charles Stark Draper Laboratory for work on the Trident II (D5) guidance system tactical engineering support and guidance applications programme.

Under the $133.3m contract, the company will provide services including tactical engineering support, mk6 field support services and engineering support to develop a strategic guidance application programme.

In addition, the company will develop a GPS receiver design approach, provide support for the extended navy test bed (ENTB) and ENTB derivative re-entry body experiments, and assess maintaining the accuracy of the existing re-entry systems.

The Trident II D5 is the US Navy’s newest submarine-launched fleet ballistic missile and is at present being used aboard the US Navy’s Ohio Class submarines and the UK Royal Navy’s Vanguard Class submarines.
