The US Navy has awarded a $248.9m contract to engineering and technical support services company VSE Corporation to continue the life-cycle support of naval vessels that are acquired or transfered to international customers via the international fleet support (IFS) programmme to IFS customers.

Under the contract, the company will provide design support, configuration management, field engineering, maintenance planning, maintenance, spare parts support, training, casualty and depot-level repair services.

In addition, VSE provides engineering, technical, procurement, logistics, test, inspection, calibration, repair, equipment upgrade installation and overhaul support services including reactivation of ships to safe-to-sail status.

Work will be carried out in Virginia and in several locations across the globe as required by IFS customers and is expected to be complete by August 2010.

The contract has been awarded by the Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, DC.
