The US Navy has awarded a $10.3m contract to Pierce Manufacturing, a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation, to supply 31 fire engines to the Navy.

Under the contract the company will supply 29 custom pumper fire engines and two HAZMAT (hazardous-material) vehicles that help the navy to safely contain volatile emergencies.

Naval bases in the US and overseas will receive the vehicles, starting early 2010.
