General Dynamics Electric Boat will execute $15.8m of repair work on a Los Angeles Class attack submarine that was damaged in a collision with the navy amphibious ship USS New Orleans in the Strait of Hormuz.

Under this contract, General Dynamics will plan work, material procurement and manufacture of a hull patch and a bridge access trunk for the damaged USS Hartford (SSN-768).

It will also carry out planning and material procurement for the port retractable bow plane of the submarine.

The repair work is expected to be complete by 31 October 2009.
