Lockheed Martin Mission Systems & Sensors, director of airborne systems, Roger Il Grande, said that the K-MAX cargo UAS is designed to resupply the US Marine Corps (USMC) in theatre and in distant regions.
“Through various scenarios during QRA, the unmanned K-MAX UAS performed extremely well, exceeding the cargo delivery objectives of the assessment,” he added.
In July 2011, the K-MAX cargo UAS successfully completed electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) testing.
The navy is planning to deploy the cargo UAS later this year to improve marine corps ground and air logistics functions in Afghanistan.
