The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded a contract to BAE to support the combat management system (CMS) on Royal Navy’s Type 23 frigates and fleet auxiliary (RFA) Argus.

The £47m ($72.9m), seven-year contract is part of the joint support solution (JSS) contract awarded to BAE Mission Systems in 2009 to provide a common support framework for the CMS.

The CMS assists a ship’s command in detecting and countering threats by managing all relevant external and internal information provided by the ship’s radars.

The system integrates the information with the activities of the anti-air weapons systems, and other sensors and weapons.

The JSS extends efficiencies to new CMS deployments on future naval ships, including the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.
