France’s Naval Group has reinforced its commitment to the Greek industry by signing new partnership agreements with six Hellenic companies.

These six agreements, part of the Hellenic Industrial Participation (HIP) plan, were announced at the Defence Exhibition Athens (DEFEA) held from 6-8 May 2025 in Greece.

Naval Group signed four framework contracts to support the Greece Navy’s Defence and Intervention frigates (FDI).

These four contracts encompass a range of services. FARAD is responsible for maintaining and servicing heat exchangers, which are vital components of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Diving Status has been tasked for underwater inspections and performing maintenance tasks and Melita Power Diesel will provide expertise in the upkeep and repair of diesel engines.

Petros Petropoulos is set to supply services related to diesel generators, which are essential for power generation and backup systems.

Naval Group also signed two memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on drone integration on surface ships, extending beyond the FDI Hellenic Navy (HN) programme.

The first MoU is with ALTUS to integrate and adapt its ATLAS 8 heavy lifter uncrewed aerial vehicle onto naval platforms including FDI frigates, Gowind corvettes, and other surface vessels.

This project will include the development of variants of the ATLAS 8 platform for heavy lifter/logistics, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and armoured roles. The armoured iteration of the ATLAS 8 is being created in partnership with MBDA France.

The second MoU is with Hellenic Aerospace Industry (EAB) and involves talks on the integration of the Centaur C-UAS system on the FDI platform, with plans to expand to other surface ship platforms in the future.

The FDI HN programme includes three frigates – the Hellenic ship (HS) Kimon, HS Nearchos, and HS Formion.

The FDI HS frigate is a 4,500t vessel designed for operations on the high seas. It is a multipurpose and robust warship equipped with advanced capabilities across all areas of naval warfare, including anti-ship, anti-air, anti-submarine, and special forces operations.

Additionally, it possesses specialised capacities to counter asymmetric threats. The frigate incorporates advanced technologies from Thales in radar, sonar, and electronic warfare systems.
