Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE ) has delivered Nirdeshak, the second of four advanced Survey Vessel (Large) ships, to the Indian Navy.
This delivery follows the commissioning of the first ship of the class, INS Sandhayak, on 3 February 2024, and is part of a contract signed on 30 October 2018.
Furthermore, the delivery of the future INS Nirdeshak reflects the collaborative efforts of stakeholders, MSMEs, and the Indian industry, strengthening the nation’s maritime capabilities in the Indian Ocean Region.
Designed by the Warship Design Bureau of the Navy, the SVL ships are built to the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping.
These are equipped to perform full-scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys, including the determination of navigational channels and routes.
Nirdeshak will also play a role in collecting oceanographic and geophysical data for both defence and civil applications.
