In a 21 October release, Exail said Marins INS provide position, heading, attitude and velocity data to support autonomous vessel operations.
The system is designed to maintain navigation information when global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals are disrupted, including through jamming or spoofing.
Exail’s Marins range has already been used on defence surface vessels, submarines and uncrewed underwater vehicles.
The company said the contract will expand its presence in the defence USV market, where reliable navigation is required for autonomous naval operations.
Exail said its navigation technologies are used on defence vessels operated by more than 50 navies worldwide and on 80% of autonomous underwater vehicles and remotely operated vehicles, including platforms operating where GNSS signals are unavailable.
Exail CCO Jean-Marc Binois said: “Navies are moving towards fleets where crewed and uncrewed vessels operate alongside one another. But deploying USVs at scale requires more than autonomous platforms: it requires trusted navigation technologies capable of meeting demanding defence requirements.
“Our strength lies in combining proven defence navigation technologies with first-hand experience of designing and integrating autonomous maritime systems. This dual expertise gives us a unique understanding of the navigation challenges facing uncrewed platforms, positioning Exail to meet the evolving needs of defence USV fleets.”
Last year, France’s Naval Group chose Exail to supply advanced navigation systems, including the Marins INS, for the Hellenic Navy’s next-generation Defence and Intervention Frigates (FDI).
