At an event commemorating the Brazilian Navy Commemoration Day on 11 June in Brasilia, UAE’s EDGE group of advanced technology and defence contractors and the Brazilian Navy signed a strategic collaboration and cooperation agreement for the development of state-of-the-art long-range anti-ship missiles.

The deal will see EDGE to become a key partner of the Brazilian Navy by co-investing in long-range anti-ship missile research and offering innovative solutions such as anti-jamming technology developed in the UAE. The Brazilian Navy will also use its fleet to support the new weapons’ entire testing plan.

The contract follows a joint development agreement signed in April 2023 that EDGE has been exploring joint development opportunities with the Brazilian Navy for the development of long-range anti-ship and supersonic missiles, with EDGE contributing its smart weapons and electronic warfare technology to develop high-performance, low-cost missiles that meet global demand.

The EDGE group, founded in UAE in 2019 through the conglomeration of 25 companies, has emerged as a prominent player in the worldwide advanced technology and defence sectors, collaborating with partners to promote defence capability development by transferring knowledge, skills, and technology, especially in Latin America, where it recently announced the opening of a regional office in Brasilia.

“Following the initial signing of our partnership agreement at LAAD 2023, we are tremendously pleased to have now reached this significant milestone with the Brazilian Navy,” stated Mansour AlMulla, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE. He went on to say that the partnership will reinforce EDGE’s commitment to developing advanced defence technologies through strategic cooperation, as Brazil moves toward developing sovereign capabilities.

“In recent years, the Brazilian Navy has made significant advancements in the development of the national surface anti-ship missile programme (MANSUP), carrying out launches and overcoming technological challenges with the support of the National Industry,” said Brazilian Navy Fleet Admiral José Augusto Vieira da Cunha de Menezes. “Today, we have reached another milestone as we combine the Brazilian Navy’s expertise with EDGE’s technology, to collectively focus on research, development, and innovation which will enhance the program and the Force’s operational capabilities.”
