
Damen Naval has selected Portuguese defence technology company EID to provide an integrated communications control system (ICCS) for the Colombian Navy’s Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) frigate.
The contract entails the incorporation of EID’s established Integrated Communication System (ICS) and advanced networking capabilities into a cohesive command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) framework.
The ICS, fully developed and manufactured by EID, is aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and security of onboard communications for naval ships.
With its modular and adaptable architecture, this system can be tailored swiftly to meet the demands of different operational contexts as required, noted EID.
EID chief executive Martin Bennett said: “We are very proud at EID to have been chosen by Damen to supply for the Colombian PES Frigate programme our state-of-the-art OceaNEX C4I solution that unites into a single platform EID’s proven Integrated Communication System with our ship network technology.
“This is particularly exciting, working with Damen on their Sigma Class Frigate and enabling new technology partnerships with our partners and stakeholders in Colombia”.

By GlobalDataScheduled for delivery in 2030, the Colombian Navy’s PES frigate is planned to be constructed at Colombian shipbuilder Corporación de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval, Marítima y Fluvial (COTECMAR) facilities in Cartagena.
Damen Naval is responsible for providing engineering support, technical assistance, and shipbuilding materials.
The PES design is based on the Damen Naval SIGMA 10514 series, a model known for its versatility and combat efficiency.
The frigate will be designed to meet the specific needs of the Colombian Navy.
EID is set to collaborate with Colombian partners to facilitate the exchange of expertise and establish a sustained technical partnership.
In 2024, Damen chose EID to deliver C4I solution for the Portuguese Navy´s new MultiPurpose Vessel (MPV).
